Jeff Bobik has taken victory in a tight final race of the 2012 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia season at Phillip Island.
The Victorian led Phil Woodbury, Kane Rose, Fraser Ross, John Modystach and John Morris to the chequered flag after eight laps of the 4.45km venue, with all six cars separated by less than three seconds.
The result ensured the round win for the series winner Rose, who had earlier added a wet Race 2 victory to his Saturday success.
Bobik and Woobury were second and third respectively in the second race and would go on to fill the round podium.
Bobik later expressed his pleasure at scoring second in the series to the dominant Rose.
“I achieved by goal to get second in the series,” he said.
“It was light years to Rose in first place, but that’s never been on the cards. Kane’s quality is up there with Matt Kingsley; the best two drivers that have ever raced in this series.
“I’ve got no problem finishing second to Kane, that’s for sure.”
The Australian Saloon Car Series and Radical Australia Cup were also in action as part of Round 7 of the Shannons Nationals.
South Australian Josh Keane took the overall honours in the Saloon Cars, scoring fourth and two firsts across the day in his Holden.
Travis Lindorff and Garry Hills rounded out the podium after Race 1 winner Simon Tabinor retired with a gearbox failure on the final lap of Race 2 while leading.
New South Welshman Neale Muston secured back-to-back race wins in the Radicals, holding out Oliver Smith and Peter Johnston in a two-lap dash at the end of Sunday’s race.
There was an extra element of drama to the end of the 50 minute affair as rain ensured that the slick-shod competitors would complete the race on a damp track.
