Mostert secures Dunlop Series round with Race 3 win

Chaz Mostert

Chaz Mostert

Chaz Mostert has secured the overall victory in Round 4 of the Dunlop Series at Queensland Raceway with a lights-to-flag win in the third final race of the weekend.

Despite being turned around by Nick Percat in the day’s earlier encounter, Mostert started from pole on the combined Race 1 and 2 points grid, and was never headed over the 22 lap journey.

The round win is Mostert’s second of year after he took out the season opener at the Clipsal 500 in March.

Scott Pye pressured Mostert all the way to the flag in Race 3, with the gap between the pair hovering around the 1s mark from start to finish.

Scott McLaughlin finished the processional affair in third, albeit more than 10s adrift of the leading duo.

The results ensured Pye and McLaughlin joined Mostert on the round podium.

Ashley Walsh concluded his solid weekend with fourth in Race 3 ahead of David Russell, Dale Wood, Luke Youlden, Andrew Jones, Tim Blanchard and Nick Percat.

Percat spun to the back of the field at Turn 3 on the opening lap thanks to a touch from Paul Morris.

Morris eventually finished 25th after two drive-through penalties, the second of which was served for speeding in pitlane.

Cameron Waters also felt the firm hand of officialdom. The reigning Australian Formula Ford Champion finished a lowly 17th after receiving a drive-through for barging Jones out of the way while battling for seventh with the Brad Jones Racing driver in the closing stages.

McLaughlin’s points lead over Mostert still stands at a healthy 82 points after the FPR driver was handed a pair of 25 point penalties for contact with Marcus Zukanovic and Cameron Waters in Race 2.

The 2012 Dunlop Series continues at Bathurst in October.
