Lewis Hamilton has dominated the opening two practice sessions ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest.

The McLaren star, driving a revised MP4-27 chassis, edged out his team-mate Jenson Button in the opening session before taking the top spot again in a weather-affected Free Practice 2.

Fernando Alonso and Ferrari proved strong, with the world title leader setting the third and fifth fastest times. The Spaniard’s team-mate Felipe Massa also had an encouraging turn of speed, beating Alonso in FP2.

Renault should also be feeling confident ahead of tomorrow’s qualifying, with Kimi Raikkonen clocking the second fastest time in FP2. His team-mate Romain Grosjean was fifth and ninth.

Williams test driver Valtteri Bottas outclassed his GP-winning team-mate Pastor Maldonado for the second FP1 session in succession, finishing 10th. Regular driver Bruno Senna assumed his place in Bottas’ car and put in an impressive performance in FP2, finishing third.

Michael Schumacher filled positions six and 10 in the two sessions, but crashed in wet conditions during Practice 2 and ended the session in the tyre wall.

Neither of Australia’s drivers Mark Webber and Daniel Ricciardo threatened the leaders during practice, with Webber down in 13th and 14th.
