The Australian GT Championship has been thrown an administration curveball just two weeks ahead of opening round in Adelaide.
Category managers Spherix called a crisis meeting with category owner and driver Tony Quinn and his new Motorsport manager Ken Collier yesterday. The meeting resulted in a parting of ways between the organisations.
Spherix will wind up its agreement with the class immediately, with Quinn installing his own in-house category manager Collier.
Collier says that the administration structure of the exotic racing class is unlikely to affect the on-track racing.
“We decided that the category management will be best to be taken under the one roof, rather than shared. We wanted someone who was focused solely on Australian GT,” Collier told Speedcafe.com.
“This was discussed with Spherix and this is the way we’ve decided to go ahead with it.

“For the category itself, it will be business as usual.”
Spherix partner Craig Denyer was disappointed to lose its involvement with the class.
“We had a difference of opinion on how the category should best be run which was brought to a head when the category owner decided not to participate in the category test day,” he said.
“It is a very disappointing outcome as we had great plans for the category. Testament to this is the quality of field of cars and drivers entered for Round 1 of the series at the Clipsal 500.
“Notwithstanding we wish all those involved our sincere best wishes for the season.”
Thirty cars have entered for the opening round of the championship, supporting the V8 Supercars at the Clipsal 500 (March 1-4).
