Factory Mercedes AMG Performance driver Dominik Baumann will join the grid for this weekend’s second round of the Australian GT Endurance Championship at Sydney Motorsport Park.
The Austrian will team up with Mark Griffith in the Hog’s Breath Cafe backed Mercedes AMG GT3 for the 501km endurance race at the Western Sydney venue.
Baumann will bring a wealth of experience to the category having been part of the HTP Motorsport Mercedes operation in Europe since last season.
The 24-year-old has enjoyed a successful career in GT racing having won the 2012 FIA European GT3 Championship and last year’s Blancpain GT Series overall drivers’ title, after finishing third in the Sprint Cup and second in the Endurance Series.
“Dominik put his hand up for the mission after a few discussions about our great country from fellow AMG drivers that have visited previously,” said Griffith.
“We look forward to a fantastic weekend with Dominik, and his experience and knowledge in the Mercedes AMG GT3 will certainly be a great help to the team.
“We are hoping to have another great race like the first round at Phillip Island where we finished fifth; can’t ask for much more than that as it is me that has to drive the car also.”
Practice and both qualifying sessions will be held on Friday August 18, with the Sydney Motorsport Park 501 starting Saturday at 0735 local time/AEST.
