Matt Campbell set the second fastest time on day two of Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup testing at Monza.

The Australian recorded a time of 1:50.002s on his first visit to the Italian circuit, less than half a tenth off the outright pace set by Mattia Drudi, and under the Supercup lap record.

Drudi’s 1:49.963s is the fastest time set by a Supercup car around Monza, bettering the previous best set by Alessandro Balzan in 2011 of 1:50.658s.

Campbell set a best of 1:50.565s on the opening day’s running to finish fourth fastest, while Michael Ammermuller set the pace at 1:50.071s in the day’s first session.

“I am satisfied with the result,” Campbell said of the two-day test.

“During the first day we sorted out some basic things and on the second day we did an attack.”

Having never visited Monza before, Campbell admitted he enjoyed the circuit with its mix of long straights and chicanes.

“A really enjoyable track; a little bit tricky, but obviously some quite technical braking areas and everything like that,” he said.

“A few kerbs to hit and long straights, so I think it will produce some really good racing.”

The Porsche Supercup now heads into a two-week summer break, returning at Spa-Francorchamps in support of the Belgian Formula 1 Grand Prix in late August.
