Stewards have issued a time penalty to James Moffat for his role in causing an opening lap crash in Race 13 of the Watpac Townsville 400.
Following a post race investigation officials have elected to add 15 seconds to Moffat’s race time after he was deemed at fault for triggering a multiple car incident at Turn 2.
Moffat made contact withe the rear of Todd Kelly’s Nissan which sparked a concertina effect, resulting in Kelly hitting Garth Tander, who then clouted the rear of Tim Slade (Brad Jones Racing).
Slade then made contact with the rear of Coulthard, which spun his DJR Team Penske Ford around.
Coulthard fought back to 11th but has now been classified in 10th position following the penalty.
As a result, Moffat has dropped from 10th to 13th position in Race 13.
Erebus Motorsport’s Dale Wood and Nissan Motorsport’s Michael Caruso were handed 25 second penalties for spinning wheels in the pit lane.
Caruso and Wood have dropped to 15th and 16th in the results respectively.
