Simon Evans has fallen just short of the perfect result to win Round 5 of the BNT NZ Touring Car Championship at Manfeild Circuit Chris Amon.
Points leader Evans dominated with poles and fastest laps on his way to two wins and a second from the three-race format.
Only a pit stop error prevented him from recording a clean sweep.
“We just had an absolute nightmare in that pitstop,” Evans said.
“My guys usually set the standard in pitstops, but it's just one of those things.
“You're allowed to have a bad day in a season. You just have to laugh at these things sometimes.”
Waipukurau driver Sam Barry claimed his first race win in the Class One championship.
It was the perfect response after he was involved in a nasty accident in Heat 1 earlier in the weekend with Tom Alexander which saw his Richards Team Motorsport crew scramble to repair the damage overnight on the Toyota Camry.
Brad Lathrope scored the round win in Class Two when he took advantage from a below par weekend from championship leader Liam MacDonald.
The final round of the 2016/17 Championship is scheduled for Hampton Downs from March 11-12.
