BP/Castrol and Renault have announced a major collaborative effort after the oil brand announced a five-year agreement with the French maker's F1 team.
It will be the first time the BP/Castrol company has been associated with Renault since it supplied engines to Williams which won the 1997 World Championship with Jacques Villeneuve.
BP and Castrol will be part of the Renault Sport Formula One Team as the official fuel and lubricants provider through the BP Ultimate and Castrol EDGE brands.
The team has previously announced that it will uncover their new car on February 21 ahead of the pre-season test for the new generation F1 machines at Barcelona on February 27.
“The return of BP and Castrol, brands with such strong heritage in motorsport, is very good news and opens new opportunities for our Formula 1 team,” Jerome Stoll, president of Renault Sport Racing said.
“BP's commitment highlights the ongoing appeal of Formula 1 to major multinational companies.
“We are very proud and motivated to have a technical partner and sponsor of this calibre.”
Cyril Abiteboul, Renault Sport's managing director, said fuel performance is set to have a bigger impact with the new aero regulations for this season.
“With the new aerodynamic regulations for the 2017 Formula One season, power sensitivity will increase.
“Therefore fuels and lubricants will make an even greater difference to the overall performance of the car than they have since the new power unit regulations have been introduced in 2014.”
