Jack Le Brocq extended his winning run to five straight Dunlop Series races in a perfect weekend for the Prodrive rising star in Townsville.
In a repeat of Race 1, the 24-year-old turned pole position into victory to extend his series lead over team-mate Garry Jacobson to 60 points.
Le Brocq didn’t have it all his own way today, however, as he lost the start to a determined Paul Dumbrell.
The Eggleston Holden led the way for the opening two laps, surviving a series of nudges from Le Brocq as the former Bathurst winner clung to the position.
Le Brocq made what would prove the winning move a Turn 2 on the third lap, rubbing doors with Dumbrell at the apex before clearing out to a 6s win.
“It was an unreal weekend and just what we needed for the points,” said Le Brocq.
“We want to win this championship this year and it’s a big step in the right direction.
Todd Hazelwood was a further 5s adrift in third after getting the better of Jacobson in the second Prodrive entry.
Jacobson took the flag fourth but dropped behind Richard Muscat and James Golding in the result due to a five-place time penalty for a startline infringement.
Taz Douglas drove Eggleston’s second Holden to seventh ahead of Macauley Jones, who dropped from fourth to a low of ninth when shuffled wide through the opening turns.
Josh Kean, Anton de Pasquale, Adam Marjoram and Shae Davies filled ninth through 12th, with Davies having been turned around by team-mate Bryce Fullwood for the second consecutive race.
Fullwood misjudged the entry to Turn 2 on the second lap, clouting the rear of Davies’ car as a result.
