The sensational win by Alex Rossi has netted a massive prize purse after the Andretti-Herta recruit's history-making triumph in the Indianapolis 500.
At the official banquet at the Marriott hotel in downtown Indianapolis, Rossi realised a $US2.5 million ($AUD3.5 million) haul.
By comparison fellow Andretti driver Colombian Carlos Munoz picked up a $788,000 ($1.1 million) cheque for finishing second.
The impressive debut performance from 22-year-old Matthew Brabham, who finished 22nd after a late fuel stop cost him up to seven places, saw him secure $202,805 ($280,000).
The overall purse for the 33-car field was $13.2 million ($18.3 million).
Schmidt-Peterson driver James Hinchcliffe led on 11 different occasions for a total of 27 laps before he finished seventh.
The Canadian pocketed $502,000 ($695,000) which included $100,000 for his effort to win the pole.
Rossi's official margin was 4.4s after he was forced to coast in the dying miles after his team ordered him to save on fuel.
The Californian took the victory 3:00.02.08s after the green flag in a race which saw 54 lead changes, 14 of which came in the first 24 laps, which included 46 caution periods.
