Daniel Ricciardo gave his home fans a taste of Formula 1 power at the weekend’s Perth Speed Fest.
The event kicked off with a demo run through Perth’s CBD on Saturday that saw Ricciardo joined by a convoy that included Jack Miller (MotoGP), Wayne Maxwell (Australian Superbikes), Nick Percat (V8 Supercars) and Alister McRae (World Rally Championship).
A full day of action followed at the Perth Motorplex on Sunday, which culminated in a drag race between Ricciardo and local Top Alcohol racer Craig Glassby.
Ricciardo was aboard a 2011 specification RB7 for the weekend, treating fans to the sound of the previous generation 2.4 litre V8s.
“It was really special to get out there and put on a show for the fans in Perth and bring the F1 car to them,” said Ricciardo, whose 10.8s quarter-mile time was beaten by Glassby’s 9.0s effort.
“The day was all about having a good time – and that’s what we did. It’s not every day you get to see and drive against this many different cars and bikes.
“It was a fantastic day out there – I know the team all enjoyed themselves. A great way to wrap up the season for everyone at Red Bull Racing.”
An estimated 9,000 attended on Sunday.
