The V8 Supercars paddock has paid respect to Garry Rogers at Queensland Raceway to mark the veteran team owner’s 70th birthday.

Organised as a surprise by son Barry, the tribute featured a parade of Rogers’ former race cars, driven by a variety of past GRM drivers.

The parade took place in front of an emotional Rogers and a pit wall packed with members of rival V8 Supercars teams wearing ‘Happy Birthday Gazza’ t-shirts.

“I’d like to thank Barry,” said a short-of-words Rogers during the parade. “He’s come along the last couple of years (with the team) and it’s been great.

“You forget because the years go by and you just keep rolling on with the next car and the next one.

“Just to be able to share it with my family and all the people that have supported us and be a part of my life was the best bit for me.”

The field was headed by a replica of the Holden 48/215 in which Rogers completed his first race as a driver 52 years ago.

Others to feature included an ex-Rogers Ford Escort Sports Sedan, a variety of Group C Toranas and Commodores, a Ford Falcon AUSCAR and GRM’s Bathurst 1000 and 24 Hour winners.

The field was completed by a Car of the Future Holden and Volvo, the latter of which was qualified fourth for both of today’s races by Scott McLaughlin just moments earlier.
