Practice for the latest round of the NSW Motor Race Championship is running as scheduled today, despite a spectacular fire breaking out at Eastern Creek.
Smoke billowed near Sydney Motorsport Park late on Thursday afternoon, bringing a temporary halt to track activity during a private Porsche practice day.
The session was restarted after a break of approximately 15 minutes, with the circuit’s operations otherwise unhindered by the smoke.
The fire had taken hold in a Hyundai parts factory on nearby Peter Brock Drive, which had been unused since it was damaged during a storm in April.
Over 100 firefighters were called in to battle the blaze before working through the night as it continued to smoulder.
