Ford has been confirmed as the official engine supplier for the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport backed Formula 4 Championship next season.
The new championship, which will feature 20 identical Mygale built single seaters, will be powered by 1.6 litre Ford EcoBoost engines tuned to deliver 160 horse power.
The move follows in the footsteps of Britain’s FIA Formula 4 variant MSA Formula, who have also adopted the same power unit for its Mygale F4 machines.
CAMS has signed a customer deal with Ford Europe for the supply of EcoBoost engines.
“I think it’s a nice Christmas present to announce this news prior to the holiday season,” said CAMS General Manager of Motor Sport Development, Cameron McConville.
“While it has taken some time to finalise, it was all about finding the right fit and I am positive that we have selected a tried and proven product which I feel is critical as we embark on this new open wheel development category which has been aligned by the FIA in the pathway from karting to Formula 1.”
CAMS has recently announced that Hankook will supply tyres for the championship, while Penrite is the official oil supplier.
The shipment of 20 Mygale F4 cars is due to arrive early next year with the seven round championship due to kick off at Townsville on July 10-12.
