Cameron McConville is set to take up a newly created role of motorsport development general manager at the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport.
The former full-time V8 Supercars driver has resigned from his position as motorsport manager at Porsche Cars Australia, which he took up 12 months ago.
He will continue with Porsche, which is yet to appoint a replacement, until October's Carrera Cup Australia season finale at the Castrol Edge Gold Coast 600.
McConville worked as CAMS' driver development manager before moving to Porsche and rejoins the governing body as it rolls out its new Formula 4 category.
“It's going to be a big role and one that I am taking very seriously,” McConville said.
“What I have learnt at Porsche in the last twelve months will put me in good stead.
“Whilst my skill set has been in category management this year I think I have got more to add to young driver development.”
McConville will work alongside CAMS' general manager of motor sport Michael Smith and driver development manager Karl Reindler.
“It's something that is close to my heart,” McConville said of working on CAMS' Academy and Formula 4 programs.
“I was Driver Standards Observer for Formula Ford in the early days. I've come through an open wheeler background so to be offered the opportunity to get in at the ground level in Formula 4 in Australia and also the CAMS Academy, it's nearly like a role that's made for me to be honest.
“That's why I am genuinely enthused about getting my hands on it and running with it.
“There is a lot of work to be done and I am under no illusion about that, but I think I have the experience through Carrera Cup this year so I know what's involved and I am looking forward to it.”
CAMS announced details of its Formula 4 structure on Wednesday, confirming that it will take the unprecedented move of buying all 20 Mygale chassis, as well as taking on the category's management.
McConville is meanwhile in action this weekend, driving an ex-Walkinshaw Racing V8 Supercar in the Kumho V8 Touring Car Series at Phillip Island.
