Kerry Madsen has taken his sixth STP World of Outlaws win of the season at Antioch Raceway in California, sneaking home with a winning margin of just 0.005 of a second.
It was the closest recorded finish in STP World of Outlaws history. The Sydney-born racer defeated Kyle Hirst at the chequered flag.
“It felt as though I was doing it comfortably, but I got bottled up there and I’m really lucky to get away with it,” said Madsen in Victory Lane.
“I was trying to keep the race pace to where I couldn’t get bottled up, but I did. It was exciting from where I was sitting!
“We haven’t been as consistent as we were, so I’m really glad to get back into the winner’s circle.”
The win secures the Australian and his West Australian-owned American Racing Custom Wheels/Keneric Racing Team a top five position in the World of Outlaws standings. He is now just 492 points behind leader, Donny Schatz.
He qualified fourth, finished fourth in his heat and then annexed a front row start after finishing second in the Dash behind Daryn Pittman.
