Three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Tony Stewart will make his racing return at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend.
While an investigation into Ward Jr's death is ongoing, NASCAR has confirmed that Stewart will rejoin the Sprint Cup field at this weekend's Oral-B USA 500 race.
“Tony Stewart has received all necessary clearances required to return to all racing activities, and therefore is eligible to compete this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway, said NASCAR Executive Vice President and Chief Racing Development Officer Steve O'Donnell.
“NASCAR has remained in constant contact with his race team, and we will stay very close to this situation as Stewart returns to competition.”
In his absence from the track, Stewart has dropped to 26th position in the Sprint Cup standings and is currently out of contention to qualify for The Chase.
Stewart is due to host a media conference at the track on Friday.
