The Malaysian Prime Minister has prompted organisers of the inaugural all-electric Formula E championship to postpone the country’s round of the series.
The Malaysian event, dubbed the Putrajaya ePrix, will remain Round 2 of the series but will change from its original October 18 date to November 22.
Prime Minister Najib Razak has told organisers he has binding commitments which clash with the original date.
Formula E chief executive Alejandro Agag said the Malaysian head of state had been instrumental in the championship going to the south-east Asian country.
“The Prime Minister has been fundamental to the FIA Formula E Championship racing in Malaysia and, following lengthy consultation with the FIA and the local motorsport federation, Formula E has decided to honour the request to reschedule the Putrajaya ePrix,” Agag said.
The remainder of the 10-round FE series is unchanged with proceedings kicking off at Beijing on September 13.
