A fourth V8 Supercars Championship title again slipped from Craig Lowndes' grasp at the weekend's Sydney 500.
Lowndes arrived at the season finale just 20 points shy of team-mate Jamie Whincup, but could not stop his sidekick taking a fifth title.
Lowndes, who this year led the standings heading into the penultimate event at Phillip Island to much hype has not won a title since back in his Holden Racing Team days in 1999.
The five-times Bathurst winner turns 40 next year and while he has been close, he has continually missed out during the current era of Triple Eight domination.
Lowndes has been runner-up for the last three years to Whincup and has finished fourth or better in each season since 2005.
Crucially, Lowndes has not beaten Whincup in points since their first year together at the Brisbane team in 2006.
Will the veteran win a fourth crown before his career comes to a close? Have your say below.
