Young Ben Grice will substitute for Damien Ward in the Finance EZI-backed Aussie Racing Car at Queensland Raceway this weekend.
Grice, the son of two-times Bathurst 1000 winner Allan Grice, has previous experience in the one-make class.
Ward suffered a shoulder injury which has ruled him out of Round 3 of the championship.
“I was at work eating my lunch and Maurie Pickering (team owner) rang me and asked what I was doing this weekend,” Grice told Speedcafe.com
“I was going to the track anyway to run a rag over a touring car and try and look interested.
Grice has previously competed in the feisty Aussie Cars two before at Morgan Park and at Townsville's Reid Park circuit.
“I hadn't actually done that much racing at the time and I managed to get into strife and had some mechanical issues. They were both character building weekends.”
Meanwhile Coffs Harbour-based Shane Burns will make the grid for his first start in the Aussie Racing Car Championship after purchasing a car following a successful test organised by Jason Bargwanna.
