Three drivers shared the race wins in Round 2 of the Kumho V8 Touring Car Series at Mallala, with the consistency of Terry Wyhoon ultimately winning out.
Having finished third in Saturday evening’s opening encounter, Wyhoon took a first and a second from the two races held at the weather-hit South Australian venue on Sunday.
The weekend performance sees Wyhoon sit just one point behind fellow Ford driver Shae Davies in the series standings.
Davies bounced back from a difficult Race 1 to score the runner-up spot in the heavily wet second encounter after trading the lead with Wyhoon throughout.
A win in the patchy conditions of Race 3 secured the young charger second for the round ahead of Saturday victor Matt Hansen.
Hansen’s Sunday netted third and fifth place race finishes, with the former coming after spinning Tony Evangelou around during an optimistic passing attempt at the Northern Hairpin.
Local driver Josh Kean shone in the Sunday morning encounter, taking fourth in his ex-Team Dynamik Holden ahead of Chris Smerdon, Chris Delfsma and the recovering Evangelou.
A tough run for Kean in the final helped fellow South Australian Smerdon to finish fourth in the race and fifth in the round behind Evangelou.
Steve Briffa was a solid sixth for the weekend despite a spin on the last corner of Race 2 that saw the Ozzy Tyres Holden pass the chequered flag taillights first.
One to strike more serious trouble was Jim Pollicina, who crashed on a Safety Car restart on the way to ninth in Race 2 before another accident ended his weekend on just the second lap of Race 3.
The series will continue with the Shannons Nationals at Winton on June 22-23.
