Dunlop Series front-runner Dale Wood is the latest guest driver to sign-up for the Carrera Cup Australia’s marquee Rennsport event at Sydney Motorsport Park.
The Victorian will team with long-time friend James Bergmuller for the May 25-26 weekend, which will feature two 60 minute races for the Pro-Am line-ups.
Bergmuller, a third generation car dealer under the Preston Motors banner, has returned to racing via the Carrera Cup this year after four seasons away.
His previous experience includes a stint in the Dunlop Series with Greg Murphy Racing, where he was team-mates with Wood.
“I’ve known James for a long time so part of the attraction of it is to partner up with him for the weekend,” Wood told Speedcafe.com.
“Our aim is to do well, but it’ll be just nice to enjoy it the weekend with a mate.
“I’ve only had one drive in a Porsche before but we have a test day planned in the lead-up and I think it’s something we should be able to come to terms with pretty quickly.”
Wood enjoyed a strong start to the 2013 Dunlop Series season in Adelaide earlier this month, finishing third for the round in his GB Galvanizing Ford behind round-winning team-mate Chaz Mostert and Matt Stone Racing’s Ash Walsh.
“I’d say we’ll be neck-and-neck with each other all year,” said Wood of his battle with Mostert.
“I think once I get a bit better understanding of the car that I’m in we should be able to win.
“Ash is going to be a major contender all season as well, so it should be a good battle.”
Meanwhile, the 29-year-old Wood  is still hopeful of a drive in this year’s V8 Supercars Championship’s endurance races, having competed in the big events in each of the last five years.
The Victorian was seen undergoing a seat fitting in David Wall’s Brad Jones Racing Holden at the recent Albert Park event, but says a deal is yet to be struck with the squad.
