The antipodean competitors in the Speedway Grand Prix World Championship opener tomorrow in Auckland haven’t had the ideal start to their weekend with a tough gate draw for all three – defending World Champion, Chris Holder, debutante Darcy Ward and New Zealand hope, Jason Bunyan.
The trio have all scored two rides from outside gates with Ward and Bunyan having two starts from the yellow gate number four and Holder starting from the white helmeted gate three on two occasions.
One of the gate three starts for Holder will see him take on arch-rival and triple World Champion, Nicki Pedersen. All is not lost for Holder though, with the white gate marginally delivering the most wins in last year’s Auckland battle.
His first ride will be in heat two against Bunyan and defending NZ SGP winner, Greg Hancock.
