Young Australian driver Steel Guiliana has tested a GP3 car for Carlin Motorsport at Estoril in Spain overnight.
As part of the category's traditional end-of-season test, the 20-year-old drove a Carlin Motorsport GP3 open wheeler in mixed conditions, completing 52 laps across the two sessions.
He set his best time in the first session, a 1:34.125s, some four seconds off the fastest time, set by MW Arden tester David Fumanelli.
Guiliana, who finished as the rookie of the year in the Formula 3 Australian Driver's Championship this year, was pleased with his maiden run in the class.
“My sectors in the dry on old tyres were really good, while being held up on our best lap,” he said.
“The afternoon session was wet and made great progress for my first time in the wet in an open wheeler.
“The level of competition here is intense and I am very proud to have done very well against all these drivers who have tested GP3 before.”
Prior to his test, Guiliana was in Abu Dhabi for the Formula 1 Grand Prix, attending meetings regarding his future in international open wheel competition.
