Chaz Mostert

Ford Performance Racing’s Chaz Mostert will share the front-row of the grid with Walkinshaw Racing’s Nick Percat for the first Dunlop Series race of the weekend at Bathurst later today.

The two factory backed drivers dominated the qualifying session from the outset, with a pair of 2:07.8s laps from Mostert in the final minutes handing the Ford driver the ascendency.

Percat’s best time was 0.6s slower than his rival, while Brad Jones Racing’s Andrew Jones was another 0.4s away from the pace in third.

Scott McLaughlin, Luke Youlden, Scott Pye, Dale Wood, Tim Blanchard, George Miedecke and Geoff Emery completed the top 10.

“After the first set of tyres we were still in high 8s and I thought we weren’t going to get in the 7s today,” said Mostert after the session.

“I’m just ecstatic – these FPR guys know how to set up a car well.

“It’s awesome to be in DVS and do times that compare with the top 10 or 15 in the main series.”

The session was punctuated by a lengthy red flag period following an early crash from Nandi Kiss.

The former V8 Ute competitor lost control of his Holden at Reid Park, making heavy front-on contact with the outside wall. Kiss emerged from the car unscathed.

The first of two Dunlop Series races is set to kick off at 1320 local time today.
