Will Power's IZOD IndyCar Series hopes have been dealt a blow after crashing out of the season finale at Auto Club Speedway Fontana today.
The Queensland native was making a pass on title rival Ryan Hunter-Reay when he hit the Turn 2 wall, narrowly missing Hunter-Reay.
The Team Penske driver will now watch the rest of the race from the sidelines. Power can still win the title, if Hunter-Reay finishes seventh or worse.
Power was bitterly disappointed with the outcome of his race.
“Its disappointing to make a mistake like that,” he said.
“I just hit a seem on the track and I never would have thought it would have spun me like that.
“To lose a championship like this is very disappointing … they just never come easy.”
The race continues, with Hunter-Reay currently in 12th place after 68 of 250 laps.
