Former F1 and Indy racing star Alex Zanardi will leave the London Paralympic Games with two gold and a silver medal after his Italian team finished second in the team cycling relay at Brand Hatch.
The 45-year-old won individual time-trial CLICK HERE and road race gold CLICK HERE, heading into the H1-4 team relay, Italy’s three-person team finished behind the United States.
Zanardi, who lost his legs in Champ Car accident in Germany in 2001, has been under the spotlight over the past week and he has delivered both in terms of results and his humbleness.
“Once again, I am speechless,” said Zanardi.
“You know, when you achieve something on your own it is great, but winning (a medal) as a team is even better.”
After all the attention, Zanardi is looking forward to heading back to a quiet life in Italy.
“It is perfectly fine for me to go back to normal life, take my son to school, things like that,” said Zanardi.
“But if along the way there will be a chance to light some more firecrackers, I won’t hold myself back. It would be a shame to miss opportunities.”
