Joey Logano has been announced as the new driver of Penske Racing's #22 car beginning in 2013.
Within hours of losing his #20 ride at Joe Gibbs Racing to Matt Kenseth, Logano confirmed that he will compete with Penske on a multi-year contract, driving the car that AJ Allmendinger had been racing for most of the season until he was released after failing a random NASCAR drug test.
Logano, a two-time Sprint Cup race winner, says it will be an honour to drive for Roger Penske.
“I am very excited to join Penske Racing and begin the next phase of my career,” Logano said.
“I am looking forward to the opportunity as it will be an honour to drive for Roger Penske and race for wins and championships.”
Penske president Tim Cindric was pleased with the signing of Logano.
“Joey Logano is a very talented driver who has already achieved a lot of success at a young age,” Cindric said.
“Joey is a great fit for our organisation and we look forward to building on his success as he takes his place behind the wheel of the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford.”
