Crash paves way for new winners in Ipswich GT3 Cup
Brent Odgers has won Round 5 of the 2012 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge at Queensland Raceway after a weekend that featured three new race winners.
Odgers scored his maiden race victory in the weekend’s second encounter on Sunday morning, which included an early red flag stoppage after a multi-car accident at Turn 3.
The shunt saw Andrew Menzies make contact with Saturday race winner Michael Almond and series leader Kane Rose, ending the weekend for all three drivers.
Odgers led on the restart on went on to take a 2.2s victory from John Modystach, with Phillip Woodbury, Adam Marjoram and Rob Knight completing the top six in a depleted 10 car field.
It was Woodbury’s turn to taste success in Race 3, leading every one of the 12 laps before taking the chequered flag 3.1s ahead of Odgers.
Marjoram, Morriss, Bobik and Knight filled third through sixth, allowing Marjoram to secure second for the weekend ahead of Modystach, who could manage no better than eighth in the final.
The biggest trophy, however, was saved for Odgers. “This was beyond my expectations, to be honest,” he said of the round victory.
“I’d hoped at the start of the weekend to get onto the podium after having two fourth place finishes in the last two rounds, but to get my first race win and to get the round win is incredible.”
Rose continues in the lead of the series standings, now with a reduced 70 points margin on Modystach, with Bobik a further six points adrift in third.
