Morgan Haber jumps to maiden Kumho V8 win
Eighteen year-old Morgan Haber has overcome a jump start penalty to take his maiden Kumho Tyres V8 Touring Car Series race win at Queensland Raceway.
Haber took the chequered flag 5.24s ahead of second placed Jim Pollicina, ensuring the win would stand despite a five second post-race penalty for a false start.
The victory is also the first in the class for Matthew White’s MW Motorsport, and follows a debut appearance from Haber in the V8 Supercars Development Series at Queensland Raceway last weekend.
Justin Garioch – having his first drive of an ex-Team Dynamik Commodore formerly raced by the late Jason Richards – finished third on the road, but was also penalised five seconds for jumping the start and was eventually classified fourth behind Matt Hansen.
Nathan Garioch, Michael Bartsch, Bobby Jane, Shane Hunt, Michael Hector and Maurice Pickering completed the top 10.
A timing issue at the circuit caused early drama, with the Safety Car and soon the red flags required while the issue was fixed.
It was a day for forget for erstwhile points leader Josh Hunter, who suffered a mechanical issue just one lap into the first start and was unable to take the grid for the restart.
The results see Pollicina, who is yet to win a race or round of the series, move back into the lead of the series with a two-point margin over Hunter.
A further two races will complete Round 4 of the series tomorrow.
