Pye2 344x224 Scott Pye takes pole in tight Dunlop Series qualifying

Scott Pye

Triple Eight Race Engineering’s Scott Pye has taken his second pole position of his maiden Dunlop Series season in a tight qualifying session at Queensland Raceway.

Scott McLaughlin and Chaz Mostert showed the way for the majority of the 30 minutes before Pye clocked 1:10.11s and 1:10.04s times on his final two laps.

McLaughlin will start second despite failing to improve his fourth and final run. The Fujitsu backed driver had earlier strung together three consecutive laps of 1:10.21s, 1:10.19s and 1:10.17s to stake his claim for pole.

Chaz Mostert and Nick Percat are set to head up the second row, while Andrew Jones, Tim Blanchard, Dale Wood, Ashley Walsh, Marcus Zukanovic and David Russell complete the top 10.

Cameron Waters put in the best qualifying performance of his short Dunlop Series career to end the session 11th.

Luke Youlden was just one place further back in 12th, despite completing just five laps before pulling off at the exit of Turn 3 with mechanical issues.

Youlden’s rookie team-mate Morgan Haber put in a commendable performance to be 20th, while the field was completed by Aaron McGill, who for the second consecutive meeting competed in qualifying after missing all practice sessions.

The first of three races for the Dunlop Series this weekend will take place at 1415 today.
