Tim Edgell Racing will join Simon McLennan’s M2 Motorsport in debuting a new V8 SuperTourer at next month’s Father’s Day 400 at Taupo.
A veteran of five NZV8 seasons, the 31-year-old Edgell confirmed his entry into the class at the weekend’s Speedshow event in New Zealand.
Edgell, who took a best season result of third last season in the NZV8s, will continue with support from Chesters, BNT Automotive and Fuchs when moving to the new series.
Edgell had his first taste of the SuperTourers when testing the prototype car at Manfeild earlier this year, and said he thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
“Driving the prototype proved to me what a well-balanced and exciting racing car the V8 SuperTourer is,” said Edgell.
“Aside from the equipment, I can’t wait to be racing in the high level of competition V8ST provides.
“It’s going to be awesome for the team too and we’re just counting down the days to Taupo.”
The addition of Edgell’s Holden and McLennan’s Ford will boost the field to 20 cars, coming just one event after the debuts of the Angus Fogg Racing Holden and Tasman Motorsports Ford at Hampton Downs.
The Edgell, McLennan and Fogg teams are among several yet to confirm co-drivers for the three endurance events that will end the class’ inaugural season.
The Father’s Day 400 will, naturally, take place over the September 1-2 weekend.
