Second Allmendinger drug test date set
A secondary sample of AJ Allmendinger’s urine is set to be tested next week as the NASCAR Sprint Cup driver continues to fight his temporary ban from the sport.
Allmendinger has now missed the last two races due to the ban, enforced after a random test at Kentucky late last month revealed traces of a banned stimulant.
Samples given by NASCAR drivers are split into ‘A’ and ‘B’ specimens, with the latter kept by NASCAR such that it can be tested upon request.
Allmendinger’s manger Tara Ragan confirmed in a statement today that the B sample will be tested on July 24.
“The test will take place on Tuesday, July 24 at 8:00am CDT and be conducted at the Aegis Analytical Laboratories in Nashville,” she said.
“Pursuant to the 2012 NASCAR Rulebook and in line with the procedures, we have elected to have a designated independent toxicologist present on AJ’s behalf.
“Along with everyone else, we are looking forward to hearing the results as quickly as possible.”
Sam Hornish has been substituting for Allmendinger in the #22 Dodge, finishing 22nd last weekend at Loudon.
