pole 344x224 Winterbottom pips Reynolds for Race 14 pole

Mark Winterbottom accepts the Armor All Pole Award

Mark Winterbottom has denied team-mate David Reynolds a career first pole position by just 0.02s in a thrilling Top 10 Shootout in Townsville.

Winterbottom was the last car on the circuit thanks to his earlier effort in qualifying, and had been marginally slower than Reynolds to the end of the second sector before doing enough to secure his third Armor All Pole Award of the season.

Reynolds will start second for the fourth time in five races, while TeamVodafone duo Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes are set to share the second row.

Tony D’Alberto, Steve Owen, Will Davison, James Moffat, Steven Johnson and Garth Tander rounded out the Shootout runners.

Davison lost time on his lap by touching the Turn 2 exit wall in his Tradingpost Falcon, while Tander’s lap was ruined with a lock-up on the way into the same corner.

Race 14 of the V8 Supercars Championship is set to get underway at 1535 local time.
