Australian Mark Webber will start from pole position for the Monaco Grand Prix, despite setting the second fastest lap in today’s qualifying session.
Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher laid down the fastest time in the final session, but will start from sixth place due to the five grid place penalty he incurred at the last round.
Schumacher’s collision with Bruno Senna at the Spanish Grand Prix is Webber’s gain, taking one of the most valuable pole positions in world motorsport.
Nico Rosberg inherits his Mercedes team-mate’s slot on the front row, ahead of Lewis Hamilton (McLaren), Romain Grosjean (Lotus), Ferrari duo Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, Kimi Raikkonen (Lotus), Spanish Grand Prix winner Pastor Maldonado and Sebastien Vettel (Red Bull).
Vettel will move ahead of Maldonado, though, after the Venezuelan was issued a 10 grid place penalty for a clash with Sergio Perez in Practice 1 on Thursday.
Perez will start from the rear of the grid after his Sauber collected the wall in Qualifying 1.
