Fernando Alonso has emerged fastest from a weather interrupted opening day of Formula 1's in-season test at Mugello.
The Spaniard took his Ferrari to a best of 1:22.44s when the track was at its driest late in the morning.
Subsequent heavy rain wreaked havoc with teams' testing programs – some squads electing not to run their cars at all in the afternoon.
Mark Webber's morning time left the Red Bull driver second fastest, albeit some 1.20s adrift of Alonso.
Jean-Eric Vergne and Jerome D'Ambrosio rounded out the top four, with the latter reserve driver getting valuable seat time in the Lotus.
McLaren, Force India, Caterham, Marussia and Williams also wheeled out there reserve drivers for the first of the three days of testing.
Both Webber and Alonso are expected to make way for their respective team-mates Sebastian Vettel and Felipe Massa tomorrow.
