Honda’s Dani Pedrosa has emerged fastest from a wet opening day of running ahead of this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez.
Pedrosa ended the second of the day’s practice sessions 0.66s quicker than Ducati’s Valentino Rossi, with Jorge Lorenzo, Casey Stoner and Nicky Hayden rounding out the top five.
With the entire day affected by wet weather, Stoner was denied the chance to fully assess the strength of the arm that cost him victory in Qatar’s recent season opener.
The top runners elected not to venture onto the circuit during Practice 1 at Jerez due to the severity of the conditions.
Just eight runners set times, CRT class rider Ivan Silva took the opportunity to top the session from Stefan Bradl, Randy de Puniet, Alvaro Bautista and Mattia Passini.
