Lee Holdsworth says that part of his decision to sign with Stone Brothers Racing is based around V8 Supercars’ upcoming Car of the Future program.
Holdsworth and SBR announced today a three-year deal that sees Holdsworth become a Ford driver until 2014.
SBR has been heavily involved in the creation of the Car of the Future technical regulations, with SBR co-owner Jim Stone part of a three-man COTF advisory panel alongside Doug Skinner (Walkinshaw Racing) and Ludo Lacoix (Triple Eight).
COTF represents a revised set of technical regulations with the aims of cutting costs, increasing safety and encouraging new manufacturers to the championship.
The COTF is set to be introduced to the category in 2013.
Holdsworth says that SBR’s technical package leading into 2013 was one of the deciding factors for him signing to drive the #4 IRWIN Racing Falcon.
“I was looking towards the Car of the Future and what may lie ahead, not so much about next year,” Holdsworth says.
“It looks like they’ve got some good things coming on. They know how to put a car together, and we’re only a year away from Car of the Future, so you need to look further down the track.”
