Bathurst 1000 winner Nick Percat says that he is ready to make the step to the V8 Supercars Championship as early as next year.
After partnering Garth Tander to victory in last week’s thrilling Great Race at Mount Panorama, Percat is confident that he can challenge the likes of Craig Lowndes, Jamie Whincup and Tander round-to-round in the Main V8 Series.
“After Phillip Island, I realised I was quick enough to go up against these guys,” Percat told Speedcafe.com.
“Doing a few stints against Lowndes and Skaife, I know I can do it.”
With a limited supply of Main Series positions available, he says that if the right deal is offered, he’ll take it.
“I could be, if the right deal came along,” Percat said in response to being in the Main Series in 2012.
“It’s a tough decision, because I don’t want to leave where I am at the moment, so we’ll see how it pans out.”
Percat has enjoyed the support of Walkinshaw Racing since 2007 and is currently racing under a long-term deal with organisation.
He won the 2009 Australian Formula Ford Championship with Walkinshaw’s backing and currently sits sixth in the Fujitsu V8 Supercars Series, driving the WR-prepared Coates Hire Commodore.
