Craig Lowndes valiant Bathurst 1000 effort didn't give him the race win, but it has moved him into the lead of the V8 Supercars Championship.
The TeamVodafone ace reeled in Garth Tander during the latter stages of today's thrilling race, finishing just shy of a sixth Bathurst win.
Due to a late electrical problem in Jamie Whincup's Commodore, Lowndes has passed Whincup in the title chase. The gap between the pair is now 100 points.
Whincup finished in 21st place, one lap off the lead.
Ford's leading charge Shane van Gisbergen remains in third place, while Tander's race win has moved him up to fourth place in the championship.
