The V8 Supercars season may have only just ticked past the half way mark of the 2011 season, but the prize over for the ‘Photo Sequence of the Year’ may as well be awarded today.
When Steve Owen’s VIP Petfoods car slammed into Karl Reindler’s stranded Fair Dinkum Sheds Commodore on Barbagallo Raceway’s front straight in May, the fuel cell of Reindler’s car was ripped open, sparking a massive fire.
Both drivers escaped with their lives intact, although burn scares on Reindler’s hands and face will forever remind him of his horrific accident.
Another person who’ll have the memory of the incident burned into their memory bank is V8 Supercars photographer Scott Wensley, who was in the right place to capture the amazing crash sequence.
To commemorate the huge incident – and raise funds for cancer-stricken driver Jason Richards – Wensley has put together a limited edition print, capturing the horrifying sequence at the start of Race 8 of this year’s V8 Supercars Championship.
Each print is being sold for $125 (including postage within Australia), with $20 from each poster sold going to the ‘Bid4Jase’ charity.
