In the first leg of the Sandown 500 for production cars in the Australian Manufacturer's Championship, Cameron Wilson and Peter Burnitt qualified on pole in their Subaru WRX Sti before two-time Bathurst 1000 winner John Bowe, teamed with Peter O'Donnell in their BMW 335 took the win.
Bowe managed to hold out the charging ‘Quinn twins' of Tony and Klark Quinn in their Mitsubishi Evo IV.The Thomas duo of Dylan and David Thomas finished third, also in an Evo IV.
The Kumho V8 Touring Cars saw Chris Smerdon (Ford Falcon BA) take the win from Shaun Fennell (Holden Commodore VX) and Scott Loadsman (Holden Commodore VY).
Local Ford Falcon AU driver Andrew Nowland won the opening Saloon Cars race, while former karting ace Matthew Hayes beat the Commodore Cup pack, fending off former class champion Marcus Zukanovic.
The Australian Suzuki Swifts saw a New Zealader win. Matthew Gibson crossed the line first ahead of a small five-car field.
