Marcos Ambrose is in the best possible position to take his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race win, dominating every practice session at Infineon Raceway this weekend ahead of tomorrow morning’s Toyota/Save Mart 350.
Ambrose will start the race from position six, after a small error on his qualifying lap dropped him from the top spot.
Ambrose has previously won two events in the feeder NASCAR Nationwide Series. His best result in the Sprint Cup is second at Watkins Glen last year.
“I’m really excited, the car is flying, everything is coming together very nicely this weekend,” Ambrose said.
“It’s a shame that in qualifying I made a small mistake, I caught the brake and accelerator pedals at the same time, and that cost us some time.
“Starting on the third row of the grid, we know we have the pace to win, so it won’t be a problem to get through to the front.
“We’ve had a pretty difficult year, but a good result tomorrow will turn everything around, I can’t wait to get started.”
In the corresponding event last year, Ambrose flew through to finish third after starting rear of grid after an engine change post-qualifying.
The race will be broadcast live in Australia on Fox Sports 1 at 4:00am on Monday, with replays being shown both on Fox Sports and One HD.
