Jason Meyers’ fourth place finish in the WoO Feast at the Lone Star Speedway in Texas on the weekend has ensured the battle for the World of Outlaws Championship will go down to the wire in Charlotte next month.
Meyers will enter the third annual World Finals at The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina 19 points behind three-time and defending champion Donny Schatz, who finished sixth at the weekend.
If successful in his quest to overtake Schatz in the points standings at the final event on the 2009 schedule he would become the first driver ever from the state of California to earn the honour.
Also remaining in contention, is last weekend’s winner Joey Saldana. The Indiana driver used his series leading 19th A-Feature win and 20th overall victory of 2009 to move to within 27 points of Meyers who is second and is now 46 markers out of the lead with two A-Feature events and two rounds of qualifying remaining in 2009 as he too chases his first World of Outlaws title, in what is the closest three-way points race in the 30-plus year history of the series.
Finishing second behind Saldana was Sam Hafertepe Jr and Steve Kinser.
The World of Outlaws wrap-up the 2009 season with the third annual World Finals at The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina, November 5-7.
