A new drag racing series has been launched by Willowbank Raceway and its president John Winterburn.

The Nitro Street and Strip Magazine South Queensland Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series will visit the eighth-mile drag strips of Warwick Dragway and Ironbark Raceway, as well as Benaraby Dragway and Willowbank Raceway utilizing the eighth mile distance.

The series will run a three-round format plus a final, from March to September in 2010 with Willowbank Raceway president John Winterburn the driving force behind the project.

“During the early days of racing we all had such a good time travelling to regional tracks, so I thought it would be be something the racers would get behind, and after talking to the operators of Roma, Warwick and Benaraby it was clear we had a base for action in place,” said Winterburn.

Modified, Super Sedan, Super Street, Modified Bike, Junior Dragster and Classic categories will be eligible to run during the series, which will kick off with its first round at Warwick on the 13th of March 2010 – the full calendar is available at willowbankraceway.com.au

Special Winner and Runner-Up trophies will be available for each bracket at each round, with the Grand Finals will see a special Winner trophy plus $750 prize money awarded to the highest point scorer of each bracket, and a special runner-up trophy and $250 go to the second highest point scorer of each bracket.
